447 bodies were found at the site of a mass burial in Izyum: the exhumation lasted a week News of Kharkiv and Ukraine

The exhumation in Izyum has been completed – 447 bodies were found at the mass burial site, including women, children and 22 servicemen. The remains of 11 people cannot be identified at all.

Oleksandr Filchakov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office

Regarding the data on the facts of the tortured women, a forensic medical examination has been appointed, we will wait for the results. As for the children, 6 of them were found. In some graves, we found only the remains of these children. At this place, the investigative team found corpses with a rope around their necks, with broken limbs, with amputation of the male genitals.

Traces of gunshot wounds were found on some bodies. Law enforcement officers and experts worked at the site for a week. After the examinations, work will begin to identify the victims.

Oleg Sinegubov, head of HOVA

We have examples when people apply for their loved ones who were buried here, this process will be very long.

priest Yurii Potykun, military chaplain of the 13th brigade of the TRO

Three people from our unit were hidden here. When they were defending Raisin, they were on the lookout, they were surrounded, they accepted the battle and died. And they were buried here. When you see the suffering of people, something inside changes, you understand that you need to pray. Not enough prayers.

There are also representatives of the diplomatic mission, ambassadors of several European countries.

Kaimo Kuusk, Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine

What we saw today and what’s most terrifying is that I’m not surprised. Estonia was occupied at one time, it was 40 years, and exactly what they did then – we see the same thing here. That is why I understand when Ukrainians say: “We will not forget, we will not forgive.”

Tobias Tiberg, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Ukraine

Russia systematically committed war crimes from the first day of this aggression. The President of the Russian Federation and his government have made it clear that this war is aimed at destroying the nation.

Claude Wild, Ambassador of Switzerland to Ukraine

I have no words for what the Russian aggressor has done here. There are simply no words. It is the worst thing one person can do to another. And here we see the suffering brave Ukrainians go through.

Matti Maasikas, head of the EU representation in Ukraine

In view of what we saw here in the city of Izyum, this definitely indicates the commission of such very serious war crimes and it is necessary to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice, as well as the creation of an international tribunal to investigate all these cases.

According to law enforcement officers, two torture chambers have already been found in Izyum alone. How many people passed through it is currently being established.

Volodymyr Tymoshko, head of the Kharkiv Oblast GUNP.

We learn about the torture chambers from the victims, investigative actions are carried out, we process the victims who remained alive and passed through these torture chambers. There are cases when the Russians, when they left, locked people in these torture chambers and they were released after the cities were liberated from the occupiers.

The occupiers set up torture rooms in every large settlement, the police say – in Izyum, Kozachai Lopan, Kupyansk and Vovchansk.
