A general who commanded the occupying forces in Ukraine last year has died in the Russian Federation

Russian general Gennady Zhidko, involved in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, died in Moscow at the age of 57.

His death was reported by the governor of the Khabarovsk region of Russia Mykhailo Degtyarev v Telegram.

According to the official version, Zhidko died “after a long illness.” At the same time, it is currently unknown what the Russian general was sick with.

Degtyarev said that at one time Zhidko commanded the headquarters of the occupying forces in Syria, and also held the position of commander of the Eastern Military District.

Shortly before the invasion of Ukraine, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia. And already after the start of the full-scale war, according to journalists and analysts, he commanded the Russian occupation group instead of the suspended Russian general Oleksandr Dvornikov.
