The newly formed group, made up of officials from several Muslim countries, will visit the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and others to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The agency reports this Reuters citing sources in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The material noted that the group was formed in early November at the summit of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Riyadh.

It included the foreign ministers and representatives of Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, the Palestinian Authority, as well as the Secretary General of the OIC, journalists wrote.

The team began talks with the permanent members of the UN Security Council – the US, China, Russia, Britain and France – with a visit to Beijing on Monday and will also visit other countries, the source said.

“The main goal of the contact group is to declare a ceasefire and send humanitarian aid to Gaza as quickly as possible. The ultimate goal of the group is to promote a two-state solution within internationally recognized parameters; for the Palestinians to live in security, stability and prosperity in their country.” , said the interlocutor.

He added that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan did not take part in the Beijing portion of the tour and would also miss the group’s trip to Moscow on Tuesday because the president Tayyip Erdogan is on a visit to Algeria.

Reuters notes that the group will meet with the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunakom and the President of France Emmanuel Macron during visits to the UK and France on Wednesday.

Separately, a group of 87 Turks, Turkish Cypriots and their relatives arrived in Egypt from Gaza on Monday and were expected to fly to Istanbul late Tuesday, the report said.
