The new 12th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation will be adopted next week; Austria has canceled the decision on additional time to study the package. This was reported by Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak in Twitter.

“Austria has now withdrawn its reserve. Sanctions against the Russian Federation should be officially adopted next week,” he wrote.

Previously Jozwiak reportedthat Austria is complaining about the inclusion of Raiffeisen Bank in the Ukrainian list of international war sponsors.

Reuters, citing an anonymous source, also claimedthat Austria does not accept new anti-Russian sanctions because it wants Raiffeisen to be excluded from this list.

Until now, official Vienna had not made such claims against Ukraine.

Raiffeisen Bank continues to operate in the territory of the aggressor country. In particular, in August the company reportedthat she will have to pay up to 100 million euros in a one-time tax on excess profits to the Russian budget. In particular, the Russian Federation is using these proceeds for the war against Ukraine.

“We continue to actively work on two options for our business in Russia: sale and separation into a separate company. While we are working on these complex options, we continue to reduce our business in Russia,” said the CEO of Raiffeisen Bank International about the situation.

Being listed as an international war sponsor is a reputational tool.

All listed companies are included in the World-Check database, which records high-risk individuals and organizations and is used around the world to identify and manage financial, regulatory and reputational risks.

  • Since March 2023, Raiffeisen Bank International has been in list of international war sponsors.
  • In July 2023, Reuters reported that Raiffeisen postpones exit from Russiahoping that the war in Ukraine will end soon.
  • In September, the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption suspended the status of the Hungarian OTP Bank in the list of war sponsors.
  • The department expressed hope that this would unlock 500 million euros in military aid from the EU. At the same time, the official representative of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Mate Pazolay statedthat the country will not support the provision of military assistance to Ukraine from the EU while the bank is on this list.
  • Already October 3 NAPC excluded OTP Bank from the list of war sponsors. However, Hungary continued to block the aid tranche due to “guarantees” for Hungarian companies.
