One of the firing positions of the occupiers in the Chuguyiv district was located near the village of Volokhiv Yar, precisely on the territory of the radio astronomy observatory. After the settlement was liberated, it became clear that the world’s largest radio telescope of decameter wavelengths UTR-2 and the GURT telescope are in a catastrophic state.
According to observatory staff, the territory has not yet been demined, it is still not possible to go to work and organize security. The main building has no roof, the warehouses were destroyed after the fires.
“What the Russians did not steal (cars and refrigerators, stoves and dishes, unique specialized computer equipment!), our fellow citizens are now looting (mower, tractor, plow, bicycles, washing machines, boilers, coal). The territory has not yet been demined, more than a month after the liberation, our employees do not have the right to work there (nor to transport them with anything – the transport was stolen!), we cannot contract security. The letters in the OVA are written, we seem to be in the first line, but… Another very big problem is that the main building does not even have a roof! There was a hit from above in the center of the building, the ceilings up to the first floor were pierced and hit (precisely on the telescope control panel). The metal beams of the roof are mostly intact, the slate is all blown away, of course. Rains, winter is coming soon, and we have no roof, windows and a hole to the first floor, another slab has fallen. The warehouses burned to the ground, and we need a roof for the building there.”
