“From the explosion that we observed in the video footage, it is clear that an aviation weapons depot was hit. Because there was a serious detonation, it means that the depot was hit <...> Any airfield that was put out of action is very good. And also, if it was additionally destroyed with a dozen aircraft – it will be a real small victory,” he said.

Ignat said that Russian Su-30M, Su-24, Il-76 and others were stationed at this airfield in Novofedorovka. The Russian army used the Saki air base to train naval aviation to land on the deck of a ship, however, as Ignat recalled, the Russians do not have an aircraft carrier – the only Russian aircraft carrier, the flagship of the Russian Navy and the Northern Fleet, Admiral Kuznetsov, “has already smoked all the seas of its pipe”.

The speaker of the Air Force stressed that any airfield approaching Ukraine is dangerous, and occupier planes take off from this airfield every day. They no longer fly to the Serpentine, but patrol around the clock in the Black Sea.

  • On August 9, in the temporarily occupied Crimea, explosions thundered in the area of the Russian air base “Saki” in Novofedorovka. In Russia, they said that an aviation munition exploded, and allegedly there was no fire damage.
  • The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine “cannot establish the cause of the fire” at the airfield of the invaders in the Ukrainian Crimea, but strongly recommends that they study fire safety rules and not smoke where it is not allowed.
  • A senior Ukrainian military official told The New York Times that the explosions at a Russian air base in temporarily occupied Crimea were an attack by Ukrainian forces that used Ukrainian-made equipment.
