The Security Service noted: “These letters were sent on his own initiative and do not in any way represent the position of the Service.” They added that the personnel decision regarding Yuriy Palagniuk was made by the acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine, and it is precisely about removal, i.e. suspension.

As reported edition earlier, the SBU Office in Kyiv sent a letter signed by Palagniuk to the Darnytsk District State Administration, in which it was noted that the Security Service sees the transition of communities from the UOC to the OCU as “threats to national security”. The letter contained a reminder of the prohibition of mass gatherings during martial law and a request to conduct explanatory work among the public regarding the prevention of participation in meetings of religious communities by leaders of territorial communities or representatives of local authorities.

This, the letter states, “can be used by representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to challenge actions in court,” and by the special services of the Russian Federation – “for accusations of oppressing the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, inciting inter-confessional enmity, and using protest potential to destabilize the socio-political situation in the state.”

It also became known that Palahniuk appealed to the Department of Culture of the Kyiv Regional State Administration with a request to provide copies of the protocols and statutory documents of the religious community Parish in honor of the Intercession of the Mother of God of the Boryspil Eparchy of the UOC village. Trebukhiv, Brovar district, Kyiv region, who expressed a desire to transfer to OCU.

  • We will remind you that in mid-July, the OCU published a statement that some officials and law enforcement officers were blocking the exit of parishes from the Moscow Patriarchate.
