The head of the Pentagon said this at a briefing in Kyiv. informs Ukrinform.
According to Austin, a “number of issues” were discussed at the meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, and with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umyerov – current operations, as well as the near and medium-term goals and objectives of the new leadership of the IOU.
The head of the Pentagon assured the leadership of Ukraine of continued support and that the US will continue to work on providing Kyiv with everything necessary to achieve success on the battlefield.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin as well reportedthat the bipartisan support of Ukraine is preserved in the Congress.
“I continue to see bipartisan support in both houses of Congress, and I know there are some things we need to continue to work on to get the supplemental request approved, and we will continue to work with Congress on that,” the Pentagon chief said.
Austin acknowledged that some members of Congress “have valid questions” regarding support for Ukraine, “which we will answer.”
In addition, US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin toldthat in a war like Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, what matters is not exactly what weapons are provided to Kyiv, but how they are used and integrated.
The head of the Pentagon was asked to comment on the words of German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius that long-range Taurus missiles will not be able to change the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine.
“We have repeatedly said that in a conflict like this (i.e. in Ukraine. – Ed.), there is no “magic bullet”. Everything depends on the provision of the right forces and means, as well as on how these forces and means will be integrated in the right way so that you can create the right consequences on the battlefield,” says Austin.
He emphasized that this applies to all types of weapons that Ukraine has received or may receive – from HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems to F-16 fighters.
