Ben Wallace retains position of UK Secretary of Defense in Liz Truss government – Ukraine news, Politics

British Prime Minister Liz Truss decided to leave Ben Wallace as Secretary of Defense, according to the official Twitter account of the head of the British government.

Wallace has been head of the UK Ministry since July 2019.

After the resignation of Boris Johnson in July, he was considered the main contender for the leadership of the Conservative Party and prime minister, but decided to focus on working in the Department of Defense.

James Claverley became the new British Foreign Secretary to replace Truss, who held this post in the Johnson government.

Prior to that, he headed the Ministry of Education for several months, and in 2020-2022 he held junior ministerial positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  • On September 5, it became known that British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss won the election of the leader of the Conservative Party. 81,326 votes were cast for her. Her rival in the premier race was ex-Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, who was supported by 60,399 conservatives.
  • British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons promised that support for Ukraine would continue, no matter who replaces Boris Johnson as prime minister.
  • Truss thanked her predecessor Boris Johnson for fighting the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
