This is stated in statement Head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell.
“The EU once again expresses its strongest condemnation of plans to organize illegal “referendums” aimed at Russia’s annexation of parts of the Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhia regions – territories of Ukraine currently occupied by Russia. These illegal “referendums” are another flagrant violation of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and a serious violation of the UN Charter,” the statement said.
The EU reminded that Russia, its political leadership and all those involved in the organization of these “referendums”, as well as other violations of international law and international humanitarian law in Ukraine, will be held accountable, and additional restrictive measures will be introduced against Russia as soon as possible.
“In addition to the enormous suffering caused by Russian aggression to the Ukrainian people, Russia has decided to further increase the cost of its war also for the Russian population through partial mobilization,” Brussels said.
The statement also notes the successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the current counteroffensive.
“The mention of nuclear weapons will not shake our resolve, determination and unity to stand by Ukraine and our comprehensive support for Ukraine’s ability to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty for as long as necessary,” the statement said.
