Budanov answered what the consequences would be in the event of the occupiers blowing up the Kakhovskaya Dam

The head of the Ukrainian SSR emphasized that the detonation of the dam will flood the left bank of the Kherson region, and this terrorist attack will bring more problems to the Russians than benefits.

If Russia blows up the Kakhov dam, it will be able to delay the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces for several weeks, and Crimea and the Zaporizhzhya NPP will also be left without water.

About this in interview The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, announced the UP.

“It is partially mined, it is true. Well, it is very difficult to evaluate the stupidity of the Russians (willingness to commit such a terrorist attack – ed.) with some logic. I will say this: blowing up this dam will definitely cause an environmental disaster, that is a fact. There are simply other aspects. First: why to do this – what will they lose and what will they gain? And the second: you can partially blow up the dam, or you can completely blow it up. Well, to blow it up completely, such work has not been carried out. Mining has been carried out partly for partial destruction, if necessary. To destroy such a level structure, tens of tons of explosives, correctly located, are needed,” said the 36-year-old major general.

Budanov also emphasized that the detonation of the dam will flood the left bank of the Kherson region, and this terrorist attack will bring more problems to the Russians than benefits.

“They will lose, even theoretically, the possibility of supplying water to the North Crimean Canal, to Crimea, until we rebuild the dam, and that will take a very long time. It will be unrealistic to do it. And the most interesting thing is that they will destroy the possibility of the existence of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, because this area the object is inseparably connected with it. Well, of course, they will make it difficult for us to advance for a certain period of time. And this, by the way, is not a very long period of time, it will be somewhere around two weeks.

But they will be forced to retreat directly to the Crimea. In other words, if you make a complete destruction, then the scenario is as follows. Are they ready for it? I don’t think so,” explained the head of the GUR.

The threat of undermining the Kakhovskaya HPP

Russia, experiencing failures at the front, threatens to blow up the Kakhov reservoir and plans to blame Kyiv for the terrorist attack.

According to the President of Ukraine, more than 80 settlements, including Kherson, may be at risk of flooding.

Kakhovskaya HPP is the lowest and last (sixth) stage in the cascade of Dnipro reservoirs. The hydroelectric power plant near Novaya Kakhovka ensures annual regulation of the Dnipro flow so that the southern part of Ukraine has electricity and water.
