President Vladimir Zelensky awarded the rank of lieutenant general to the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Kirill Budanov. The corresponding decree published on the website of the head of state.
Zelensky promoted Budanov to the rank on September 7, when Ukraine celebrates Military Intelligence Day.
Thus, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate became the youngest lieutenant general in Ukraine, he is 37 years old.
This rank is the second in the hierarchy of the Ukrainian army, the same is held by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergei Shaptala.
The next and highest rank (four stars) is “general” – this is only available to the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny.
