Zelensky promoted Budanov to the rank on September 7, when Ukraine celebrates Military Intelligence Day.
Thus, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate became the youngest lieutenant general in Ukraine, he is 37 years old.
This rank is the second in the hierarchy of the Ukrainian army, the same is held by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergei Shaptala.
The next and highest rank (four stars) is βgeneralβ – this is only available to the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny.
