Last January, Zelensky, despite US intelligence reports that a Russian invasion was being prepared, publicly denied the possibility of a full-fledged war. According to Whipple, US President Joe Biden asked the head of the CIA to meet with the Ukrainian president and convey information about the real state of affairs, in particular, providing detailed plans for the Russian intelligence services to assassinate Zelensky.
According to Whipple, Burns’ visit stunned and “sobered up” Zelensky.
The intelligence was so detailed that it helped Zelenskiy’s security forces thwart two Russian attempts on his life.
The Independent points out that in total, Zelensky has faced 12 attempts on his life since the start of the big war.
- On May 2, Zelensky said that they tried to assassinate him 10 times. It’s “not much,” he said, and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin now has bigger problems.
- He also said that the authorities had a plan of action in case of his assassination.
