Yuriy Shchygol, the former head of the State Intelligence Service, was released from custody a day after a preventive measure was imposed on him.

Interlocutors in anti-corruption law enforcement agencies informed the “Slovo i Dilo” journalist about this.

It is known that a deposit of 25 million hryvnias was made for Shchygol.

We will remind that the meeting regarding the election of the preventive measure official took place on Thursday, November 23. NABU and SAP asked to arrest Shchygol with an alternative of UAH 50.23 million, but the court imposed a preventive measure on him in the form of detention for a period of 60 days with an alternative in the form of bail.

Shchygol, as well as his deputy, are suspected of embezzling state funds in the amount of over UAH 62 million. According to the investigation, in 2020, the owner of a group of companies, in collusion with the leadership of the State Intelligence Service, developed a scheme to seize budget funds allocated for the purchase of equipment and software.

Earlier, the SAP prosecutor said that they found $1.5 million worth of crypto-currencies in Shchygol’s possession. The suspect himself reported that this crypto-wallet was apparently not related to him in any way and six months ago, during the NABU searches, he did not know about him, but suddenly, after suspicion, he appeared.
