Earlier, the media reported that President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Ilashchuk, who has no experience in diplomacy and previously “positioned herself as a specialist in sexology and precious jewelry,” as the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria.

The ministry said that Ilaschuk has the proper qualifications of a specialist in international relations, a translator, and is fluent in English.

She received a diploma with honors in the specialty “Kraine Studies” of the Department of International Relations of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations of Chernivtsi National University named after Yuriy Fedkovich.

Ilashchuk’s candidacy did not cause any comments from the Bulgarian side.

“The appointment of non-professional diplomats to the post of ambassadors is a common international practice. In Ukraine, over the past two years, all non-professional diplomats appointed to the post of ambassadors have demonstrated worthy results. It is only by them, and not by interpretations and images, that one should judge the work of an ambassador abroad” , the ministry said.

  • In 2020, the president of the Gorshenin Institute, Vadym Omelchenko, who had no diplomatic experience before, became Ukraine’s ambassador to France.
  • Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova also did not work in the structure of the Foreign Ministry before her appointment to Washington.
