“Ukrtelecom” is creating a network of free Wi-Fi points in Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Odesa and Kharkiv. Free public Wi-Fi zones will be able to provide access to the Internet for 2-4 hours in the event of a power outage. This was reported by the company’s general director, Yuriy Kurmaz, in an interview Interfax-Ukraine.
“Discussing various blackout scenarios, we at Ukrtelecom decided to open a network of free public Wi-Fi zones in five cities where we modernized our infrastructure a few years ago and installed active street cabinets (MSAN – Multi-Service Access Node – a multi-service access platform – a device that connects subscriber lines with the network core – ed.).
I am sure that many citizens in Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Odessa and Kharkiv have seen such gray cabinets. We have put stickers on them that let you know that you can use free Wi-Fi here. There are more than 700 such zones with public Wi-Fi in Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Odesa and Kharkiv, where you can use Internet access during the 2-4 hours of the blackout. We are just getting ready to widely announce this project.”
