As noted, Germany angrily rejected Johnson’s claim that in the run-up to a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Berlin said that it was better for Ukraine to surrender than to be drawn into a protracted war.
Press Secretary of the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz refuted these allegations, speaking harshly about Johnson.
“We know that a very entertaining former prime minister always has a unique relationship with the truth; this case is no exception,” the official said.
Miguel Berger, the German ambassador to the UK, agreed with him.
The Guardian recalled that Johnson emphasized in his interview that the EU countries later rallied around Ukraine and provide it with unwavering support, but said that before the invasion in February in the EU there were different opinions on this matter.
