Subsequently, at the GUR noted, that the Russian pilot’s name is Maxim Kuzminov. He served in the 319th separate helicopter regiment of the Russian Army Aviation.

According to Kuzminov, he himself contacted the representatives of the Ukrainian intelligence: “I contacted the representatives of the Ukrainian intelligence, explained my situation. They offered me security guarantees, new documents, monetary compensation, a reward. They discussed the details and started planning my flight directly.” .

Maksym Kuzminov cites his categorical rejection of the aggressive war waged by Russia against Ukraine, as well as his reluctance to be involved in war crimes, as the main motive for his act.

“What is happening now is simply a genocide of the Ukrainian people: both Ukrainian and Russian. The basis of my action is not to hide from these crimes,” said the Russian pilot.
