According to Jozwiak, Hungary has just notified EU ambassadors that it does not intend to block the extension of EU sanctions against Russia for the next 6 months.

At the same time, Budapest said that it would like to submit proposals on changes that are of interest to Hungary in the sanctions lists to the EU working groups, so that after discussion they would be taken into account during the next extension of sanctions in March 2023.

On September 6, media reported that Hungary was threatening to block the extension of EU sanctions unless Russian oligarchs Alisher Usmanov, Petr Aven and Viktor Rashnikov were removed from the current sanctions list.

In June 2014, the European Union imposed sanctions on Russia for attempts to undermine the territorial integrity of Ukraine and destabilize the country. These sanctions are renewed every 6 months. The European Union plans to agree on another extension of these sanctions against Russia until September 15.
