In a couple of years, the G20 will not be in the form it is now

He expressed this opinion on Espresso.

Valery Chaly commented on the report that Xi Jinping will not participate in the G20 summit.

“Because they are forming their group – BRICS + 6. There are such wonderful countries as Ethiopia, Iran, Argentina as well. China has shown that it is going. Its choice is bipolar, where China is on one policy. I believe that this bipolar world is now emerging more than a multipolar one. And the G20 is unlikely to play the role that was laid for it at the time. In my opinion, in a couple of years the G20 will not be in the form it is now,” said the diplomat.

Chaly noted that the G20 will still join the African Union, and next year there will be another summit, after several summits it will be very problematic to explain what the G20 is.

G20 summit in India: what is known about the participants

On August 10, the world media assumed that Russian President Putin could personally participate in the G20 summit in India, despite the fact that on March 17, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued a warrant for his arrest.

On August 15, it became known that Russian President Vladimir Putin was invited to the G20 summit, which will be held in New Delhi on September 9-10, but there are no representatives of Ukraine on the list of invitees.

On August 16, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar confirmed during a meeting with international media that Ukraine was not invited to the summit.

It is worth noting that Ukraine received an invitation to the last G20 summit in Indonesia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the Peace Formula to the meeting participants for the first time via video link.

On August 25, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmytro Peskov, stated during a briefing that Putin will not go to the G20 summit, which will be held in India in September.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has already announced that he will not go to New Delhi and will send Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

On August 31, the media reported that the G20 summit in India, which is scheduled for this week, will most likely take place without the participation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

US President Joe Biden later said he was disappointed by reports that Chinese leader Xi Jinping was unlikely to attend the G20 summit in India.

On Tuesday, September 5, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed media reports that President Xi Jinping will not attend the G20 summit in India.

The European Union plans to take advantage of the absence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in India to approve the African Union’s bid for permanent membership of the Group of Twenty.
