In Belarus, motorized rifle and two tank battalions were tasked to advance to areas bordering the state border of Ukraine.
As reported commander of the United Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Serhiy Naev, Ukrainian troops worked out measures for the defense of the northern borders.
Nayev said that during the exercises, the Belarusian and Russian troops practice actions of an offensive nature.
“On the territory of Belarus, the inspection of the units of the 2nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 1st Tank Army has begun. In particular, the motorized rifle battalion and two tank battalions have been tasked to advance to the areas bordering the state border of Ukraine,” Nayev said.
In turn, on the territory of the Kyiv region, at one of the important state objects of critical infrastructure, a training session was held with the units that carry out the protection and defense of the specified object.
“Coordinated and clear actions of the defenders proved their readiness for adequate countermeasures in case the enemy tries to seize this object,” the general stressed.
Russia’s offensive from Belarus – what you need to know
Russia began demonstratively withdrawing troops to the Belarusian-Ukrainian border at the beginning of December. However, there is still no data on preparations for a major operation of the Russian Armed Forces in the north.
The Institute for the Study of War does not rule out that Russia intensified the maneuvers of its troops in a neighboring country in order to divert the attention of Ukrainian forces from another strike – perhaps in the Luhansk or Kharkiv regions. Analysts assess the invasion of the Russian Federation from Belarus as unlikely, but real.
At the same time, neither the Ukrainian General Staff nor NATO have any doubts that Russia will attempt another major offensive.
