The Defense Express military expert commented on the Danish Defense Minister’s statement on the transfer of the first F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine in the spring of next year, and not in the winter, as previously expected in Ukraine.
“This is very bad news, but it is clear that the responsibility here is shared equally. At first, the Danish partners overestimated their technical capabilities to restore those planes and made unrealistic promises. We will also have to work somewhere – we need to organize not only runways and establish processes for technical maintenance, and a sufficient number of protected hangars need to be built,” noted the Defense Express expert.
Ivan Kyrychevskyi added that both sides of the process overestimated their capabilities.
“We could have certain expectations, both public and part of the components of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, which were to draw up plans for air defense for this winter. Now there will be no such local reinforcement in the form of F-16s. But in fact, from the other side, everything is not so sad . Some of the air defense equipment that Germany announced in a recent aid package of 1 billion euros should be in December of this year or next January. If not additional fighters, then at least additional air defense systems. However, in terms of the effectiveness of the F-16, it is significantly better than the Patriot battery,” he concluded Kirichevskyi.
