Reports of the “regrouping” of Russian troops on the left bank of the Kherson region could be part of an information operation aimed at making Ukrainian forces underestimate the number of enemy forces.

This is one of the versions of the analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

According to analysts, the Russian military command could have instructed the state media to publish and then deny reports about the regrouping as part of an information operation aimed at forcing Ukrainian forces to underestimate the state of the enemy’s troops on the left bank of the Kherson region.

But the ISW noted that it would not be possible to deceive the Ukrainian command in this way.

Another version – the retracted message may indicate real discussions among the top military command, which prematurely entered the information space.

The third version, which ISW considers unlikely, is that the information about the reorganization was given to the mass media by an external source under the guise of the Ministry of Defense.

At the same time, analysts note that regardless of the reasons for the appearance of such a message, the reaction to them suggests that there is no unified rhetoric in the Russian media regarding what is happening in the Kherson region.

The Russian Ministry of Defense does not recognize that the Armed Forces have taken positions on the left bank of the Dnieper and are conducting operations. At the same time, military commanders are increasingly reporting on the activity of the Armed Forces in the area.

The report emphasizes that the previous failures of the Russians to develop a coordinated response to failures at the front led to chaos and discontent in the information space – now the command risks repeating this already with the situation in the Kherson region.

We will remind, yesterday morning two Russian propaganda agencies reported with reference to the Ministry of Defense about the “regrouping” of troops in the Kherson direction, but then deleted the news.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation called the sending of such messages a “provocation”.

The Center of National Resistance stated that the withdrawal of Russian troops was not recorded, and reports about it could be part of an information operation against Ukraine.

The Armed Forces called the “regrouping” move an element of combat operations.
