“The Armed Forces fired at Valuyki. The air defense system worked, but there is destruction of the ground. The substation was damaged, the city’s electricity supply was disrupted. Eight private residential buildings on Shkilna Street and three cars were also set on fire. According to preliminary information, one civilian was killed. Medical assistance is provided on the spot to two victims,” writes the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov.
The city of Valuyki is located near the border with Ukraine, in the direction of Kupyansk. Historically, these lands belong to the Ukrainian Slobozhanshchyna.
More than 35,000 Russians live in Valuyki. The area of the city is 34 km².
