Iowa state becomes 33rd US state to recognize Holodomor in Ukraine as genocide

The state of Iowa issued a proclamation on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine and became the 33rd U.S. state and the eighth state of the Consular District in Chicago, which recognized the Holodomor of 1932-33 as the genocide of the Ukrainian people and proclaimed November as the month of remembrance of the Ukrainian Holodomor-genocide in Ukraine.

“We are sincerely grateful to Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds for solidarity with Ukraine. Thanks to the Consul General of Ukraine in Chicago Serhiy Koledov and the Ukrainian community for their active work in honoring the memory of the victims of the Holodomor,” Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova wrote on Facebook on Friday.

She invited everyone to join the Holodomor Victims memorial ceremony near the Holodomor Genocide Memorial in Washington at 16:30 on November 25.
