“We are very focused on rescuing forces where there is ongoing fighting and fighting terrorists, and we hope that by the end of the day there will be no more terrorists alive in Israel,” he said.
To ensure the safety of the area for civilians, special forces are conducting military operations in various places, and firefighters are taking control and clearing some areas, he added.
Hecht said “tens of thousands” of Israeli reservists had been called up since the offensive began early Saturday morning.
According to Hecht, the IDF is concerned about a possible attack from the northern countries of Lebanon or Syria: “We are ready in the north, in case there is some Palestinian faction there, in case they decide to enter it, we will be ready, we are considering this and we are ready for it.”
