The Defense Forces of Ukraine launched a missile attack on the Sevastopol Shipyard, sending another Russian ship and – for the first time – a submarine on the course of the cruiser “Moskva”. UNIAN asked the captain of the first rank of reserve of the Navy of Ukraine Andriy Ryzhenka about the consequences of this strike.
Mr. Andriy, what are the ships that the Russian Federation lost as a result of a missile attack by the Defense Forces on Sevastopol?
They are currently talking about the loss of two ships. In particular, this is the landing ship “Minsk”, project 775. This is a fairly common ship. It can carry a company of marines (about 120 people) and about 14 units of armored vehicles, such as armored personnel carriers. Such a unit is quite necessary for the Russians. And this is confirmed by the fact that before the start of the war they transferred six additional landing ships to the Black Sea Fleet from the Northern Fleet and the Baltic Fleet.
I would like to remind you that the ship “Minsk” has a salvo fire system “Grad” on its bow, and it fires these unguided missiles at a distance of at least 25 kilometers. He also has 320 missiles. And, in principle, one ship can cause serious damage, for example, to the forces that are liberating, in particular, our Azov region. By the way, the Russians used such ships during the assault on Mariupol last year.
As for the other ship, it is the Rostov-on-Don submarine. This is a new ship, project 636.3, it was built in St. Petersburg. Its main task is to launch missile and torpedo attacks on enemy forces, lay sea mines, and deliver special forces to the area of ββspecial tasks. Six such submarines were built in the interests of the Black Sea Fleet. Now there are four in the Black Sea. Of these four boats, two are in combat readiness – one each in Sevastopol and in Novorossiysk, and one boat – both there and there – underwent dock repairs.
It was during the repair that the ship “Minsk” and the submarine “Rostov-on-Don” were hit by Storm shadow missiles and received serious damage, which is very problematic to restore. In particular, for a submarine, the problem is that with such extensive damage, something could be done at the manufacturer’s enterprise. It is in St. Petersburg, and it is impossible to get the boat there.
While in port, a submarine, especially when it is docked, is very vulnerable / UNIAN collage
And is it possible to replace “Minsk”? This is not the first Russian ship to be damaged. Will the loss of ships affect the fighting capacity of the occupying forces?
“Minsk” is already the third ship that was actually destroyed. The thing is that the “Olenegorsky Gornyak” and this Minsk” have very serious damage, I think it will be difficult to restore them. Especially since they are of Polish construction, so Polish spare parts are needed, and they are currently impossible to obtain. The prospect of rebuilding or building new such there are no ships either, because they were built in Poland.
In connection with the absence of these ships, it will be more difficult for Russia to conduct amphibious operations and provide fire support to its occupying forces during the defense of coastal areas.
The armed forces hit a Russian submarine with a missile for the first time in history. How did this become possible?
While in port, a submarine, especially when docked, is very vulnerable. If he is near a dock, he can hide somewhere, or leave the base, and when parked in a dock, he actually loses all mobility. It is my understanding that this boat has been analyzed and selected as a target based on the intelligence that our partners are providing us. So a missile hit him. He has no special protection against such a weapon, and he received damage… We found the weakness that the enemy showed us.
We have anti-submarine forces and means, this is anti-submarine aviation. They can find enemy submarines in the sea, but now their use is impossible, because the enemy has aviation dominance in the Black Sea and as soon as the plane takes off, it can be shot down very quickly by anti-aircraft …
After the attack on the Sevastopol Shipyard, where will the Russians be able to repair their ships?
There is also a military ship repair plant in Sevastopol, which is called the “13th Ship Repair Plant” of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. It is located two kilometers east of “Sevmorzavod”. I think that now he is organizationally subordinate to “Sevmorzavod”. And, by the way, the so-called governor Razvrozhaiev spoke about the arrivals in Kilen-balka (a beam in the Nakhimovsky district of Sevastopol, – UNIAN), where this enterprise is located. I think there was something there too.
In any case, Sevastopol’s repair capacity was seriously damaged. It is possible that repair factories will be deprived of the opportunity to repair ships for a certain time, and such a need was very serious. We know that warships were constantly stationed at the 13th factory, because they travel a lot, and most of them are not new – this is a Soviet-built fleet.
Now for them, as an option, there is a plant in Kerch. There they build “Karakurts” (small warships), maybe there are some small workshops in Feodosia. There are also ship repair plants in Novorossiysk, but it is very far from Sevastopol. Considering that 2/3 of the warships of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation are located in Sevastopol, this is a serious loss of repair capabilities.
Can we say that work has begun with the departure of Russian ships to Novorossiysk?
I wouldn’t say so. Now our armed forces have begun to implement measures of an offensive nature in order to maximally reduce the combat potential of the enemy on the “sinking aircraft carrier Crimea” in order to free it from the occupation in the future. First of all, our measures are aimed at striking military objects, that is, ships, air defense complexes, airfields, accumulations of equipment, warehouses, means of surveillance, communication, intelligence, etc. Then the special forces landed on Tarkhankut, destroyed the radar, then there was a strike and destruction of one S-400, now another, and the day before there was an attack on the main base of Sevastopol and destroyed at least two ships.
