The indictment in the criminal proceedings against former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has been sent to the court. They are accused of treason – it is about the signing of the Kharkiv agreements in 2010.
This is reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
During the investigation, it was established that the ex-president, in violation of the requirements of the Constitution and the law “On International Treaties of Ukraine”, signed an agreement in Kharkiv on April 21, 2010, which extended the stay of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea for 25 years. On the same day, the former prime minister signed an order approving the agreement by the Cabinet of Ministers.
“The former leaders of the state artificially created the prerequisites for increasing the number of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine, their re-equipment and modernization, and in the future – the invasion of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and their occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol… In connection with the hiding of the accused in the territory of the aggressor state , the pre-trial investigation was carried out by the SBI under a special procedure (in absentia)”the prosecutor’s office said.
It will be recalled that the investigation against Yanukovych and Azarov in this case was completed in December 2022. This week they were summoned to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Former Minister of Defense Mykhailo Yezhel, former Minister of Justice Oleksandr Lavrynovych and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostiantyn Hryshchenko were previously suspected of signing the Kharkiv Agreements.
