He recalled that immediately after the start of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation, Cambodia “took a clear position” in support of Ukraine.

In the first week of November, the President Vladimir Zelensky held telephone conversations with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdeh Gun Sen, and today, November 9, the country’s leader received Kuleba to develop these agreements. The Foreign Minister will take part in the ASEAN summit, where he is scheduled to have bilateral meetings and sign an “instrument on joining the treaty” on behalf of Ukraine.

“For the first time in history, Ukraine was invited to a meeting of the leaders of this powerful union of Southeast Asia, which includes 10 countries: Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines,” Kuleba said.

According to the minister, the Foreign Ministry has developed an “Asian Strategy”, and this is one of its first results: “Accession will bring concrete benefits to our state, business and citizens from political, military and economic cooperation to trade, increased exports and technology exchange. ASEAN is one of the fastest growing regions in the world.”

He discussed with Gong Sen the provision of demining equipment to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian sappers by Cambodian specialists, as well as increasing trade, digital transformation, cooperation in the field of education and food security.

“In the near future, Ukraine and Cambodia will exchange ambassadors (concurrently) in order to have a permanent channel of communication. New horizons of foreign policy – new opportunities for the Ukrainian state, business and citizens. <...> Because for a good harvest, you first need to sow the field well over the horizon,” summed up Kuleba.
