Kyiv can expect the worst winter since the Second World War – Klitschko

Kyiv may face the worst winter since World War II. If everything goes according to the “worst case scenario”, then part of the city will still have to be evacuated.

Mayor Vitalii Klitschko stated this in an interview with a German publication BILD.

“We also have to prepare for the worst case scenario. It would be if there was a widespread power outage and the temperature would be even colder. Then part of the city will have to be evacuated, but we don’t want the matter to go that far.”Klitschko said.

The mayor does not believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin will achieve his goals by striking infrastructure. “He wants to terrorize people, make them freeze without light, so that people pressure Zelensky to surrender. But this will not happen. I got the impression that people are only becoming angrier and more determined. We will not die and run away, as Putin wants.”– emphasized Klitschko.

He said that he hopes for further support from Germany and Europe: Ukraine needs weapons, and urgently needs generators and other humanitarian goods.

It will be recalled that at the beginning of November, the head of the Department of Municipal Security of the KMDA, Roman Tkachuk, said in an interview that the Kyiv authorities are planning a total evacuation of the population in the event of a complete failure of the power grid – they can evacuate 3 million people.

Then Tkachuk clarified that the situation in the capital is under control and there is no reason to talk about evacuation – preparations for various scenarios are underway.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal also emphasized that the situation in Kyiv is far from declaring the evacuation of the population, but one should always have a “plan B”.
