Leaders of the US Congress expect to approve funding for aid programs to Ukraine and Israel in the coming weeks.
It is reported NBC News citing sources in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
According to journalists, lawmakers hope that the packages for Ukraine and Israel will be approved “between Thanksgiving and Christmas,” that is, between November 23 and December 25. It is noted that both Democrats and Republicans are in favor of this.
“I think that the aid to Israel will be accepted as one package, and the aid to Ukraine – in tandem with the plan to ensure border security. I believe that the speaker wants results on all points – Israel, Ukraine and the border.” – said one of the representatives of the Republican Party.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat, also made it clear that passing more aid would be one of his top priorities between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
At the same time, NBC News suggests that a vote to provide additional funding will face difficulties due to the position of right-wing Republicans.
Leaders of both parties are said to be working on a deal that would satisfy the Pentagon’s requested funding for Ukraine and Israel while creating an immigration package that would provide resources for border security.
It will be recalled that on November 17, President Joe Biden signed a bill on financing the work of the government, which does not include additional aid to Israel and Ukraine. The White House also warned that the US has used up 96% of the funds allocated for Ukraine.
Earlier, the ambassador to the USA, Oksana Markarova, explained why Congress did not include aid to Ukraine in the interim budget.
