“Let me quietly go into the forest”: People’s Deputy Trukhin was informed of the suspicion News of Kharkiv and Ukraine

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office informed People’s Deputy from “Servant of the People” Oleksandr Trukhin about the suspicion of attempted bribery of police officers.

The press service of NABU reported on the fact of the announcement of the suspicion, the name of the suspect is called the “Anti-corruption Center”, writes Public.

Investigators say that in August 2021, a people’s deputy offered a bribe of 150,000 to patrol police officers without specifying the monetary unit. With this money, he was supposed to be allowed to leave the scene of the accident that occurred with his participation.

Currently, law enforcement officers are working on choosing a preventive measure for the suspect. NABU reminds that the investigation was started on February 2 by Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova based on the materials of a journalistic investigation.

What is it about?

On August 23, 2021, a road accident occurred on the Boryspil highway near Kyiv with the participation of Oleksandr Trukhin, a deputy from “Servant of the People”. As a result of the accident, six people were injured (including two children), as well as the head of the committee of referees of the Football Federation of Ukraine, Luciano Luchi, and his assistant, Roman Lyshen.

This accident could not have gained a significant resonance if it were not for the attempt to hide it: on August 30, it became known that approximately 30 Ukrainian media outlets deleted reports about the traffic accident involving Trukhin (probably for money). Citing eyewitnesses, the publication “News Center” reported that it was Trukhin who was driving the Audi that rammed into the Ford car. And according to witnesses, Trukhin allegedly had signs of alcohol intoxication. However, there was no official confirmation of this.

Trukhin himself commented on the accident on September 1: he stated that he was being treated and was contributing to the investigation. And “Servant of the People” reported that in a personal conversation the deputy assured that he was not behind the wheel.

On February 1, the publication “Ukrainian Pravda” published recordings from the cameras of the policemen who arrived at the scene of the accident, where MP Oleksandr Trukhin appears. The recordings show how the deputy convinced the police that he was not driving, offered to “quietly leave” the scene of the accident and “thank” the law enforcement officers. In particular, Trukhin asked to bring a sports bag from the car, in which “there are 150 thousand”. He also said that he would talk to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Denys Monastyrskyi.

After the video was made public, Oleksandr Trukhin was expelled from the Servant of the People party. And the Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova instructed NABU to open a new criminal case against the politician – under the article about the deputy giving a bribe to a law enforcement officer. The State Bureau of Investigation reported on February 7 that, according to preliminary data, before the accident Trukhin was not behind the wheel, but a man in red clothes.

And on February 21, “Servant of the People” announced that their people’s deputies received signature letters to collect votes for the exclusion of Oleksandr Trukhin from the faction. However, today Trukhin still remains a member of the faction.
