Ministry of Internal Affairs about Zaluzhny’s assistant: The son took the grenade in his hands, but the military man took it and pulled out the ring | News of Ukraine

Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny Gennady Chastyakov died from a hand grenade due to an accident; a colleague gave him the ammunition. About it reported Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Klimenko and source in law enforcement agencies.

“As a result of priority investigative actions, it was possible to find out the first circumstances of the tragedy. Today was the birthday of the deceased Major Chastyakov. He returned home from work with gifts from colleagues, which he began to show to his relatives,” writes Klimenko.

According to him, the military man received a gift box with grenades inside and began to show one of the ammunition to his son; these were Western-style grenades.

First, the son took the grenade in his hands and began to twist the ring, after which the serviceman took the grenade from the child and pulled out the ring, provoking a tragic explosion, writes the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In the apartment, the police found five more such unexploded grenades, which will be sent for examination, he noted.

“The police found a fellow soldier who gave the fatal gift. They have already searched his office and seized two more similar grenades. Primary investigative actions are ongoing,” Klimenko reports.

Source states that the birthday gift with grenades was presented by Chastyakov’s colleague, Colonel Timchenko.

“He has already testified that he himself decided to make such a gift, putting a bottle of Black Label whiskey and six grenades in a wooden box,” the interlocutor said.

According to him, the same information was confirmed by three witnesses, in whose presence Timchenko presented the gift; he allegedly even told Chastyakov: “It’s hard to surprise you – that’s why I’m giving combat grenades and a bottle of good whiskey.”

“Obviously, Chastyakov took this as a joke. Then he subsequently took the children from school and began to sort out their gifts. He thought that the box contained not military grenades, but glasses of a specific shape,” the source notes.

The interlocutor noticed that Timchenko kept two grenades for himself.

He added a photo with them:
