“Of course, like most wars, this war is likely to end at some stage at the negotiating table. But what happens at the negotiating table is fundamentally related to the situation on the battlefield,” said the NATO Secretary General.
He stressed that an “acceptable result” at the negotiating table and the preservation of the state’s sovereignty can only be ensured if Ukraine has strength on the battlefield.
“If Ukrainians give in to Russian demands and accept that Russia can simply enter, invade Ukraine, and then take it away, then there is a risk that this will push the Russian Federation into [новому] attack, and it will achieve more and more after each invasion,” the NATO Secretary General said.
He stressed that the Alliance does not participate in the conflict, but supports Ukraine in upholding the right to self-defense.
“If Ukraine stops fighting, they will cease to exist as an independent state. If Russia stops, we will have peace,” Stoltenberg added.
- In an interview with Politico, Stoltenberg said that if Russia wins, “it will be bad for everyone in Europe and North America, for all of NATO, because it will send a signal to authoritarian leaders – not only to Putin, but also to China – that they can achieve their goals with brutal military force.” goals.”
- Tomorrow Stoltenberg will visit a base in the UK where Ukrainian servicemen are trained.
