The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea announced that the launch of missiles by North Korean troops took place at around 4 o’clock in the morning.
“By strengthening our monitoring and vigilance, our armed forces maintain full readiness in close cooperation with the United States,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.
Following the 11-day Ulchi Freedom Shield drills between South Korea and the United States, which ended on August 30, North Korea began a military command and staff exercise involving a scenario of occupying South Korean territory, and earlier this week fired two short-range ballistic missiles toward water off its east coast.
North Korea said the missile launch was a training exercise for a tactical nuclear strike on major command centers and airfields in South Korea.
- It will be recalled that the DPRK announced that they had simulated nuclear strikes on military targets in South Korea.
