Musk published the letters on Twitter, write TechCrunch.
“The reason I bought Twitter is because it’s important for the future of civilization to have a digital platform where a wide range of ideas can be discussed without devolving into violence. That’s why I bought Twitter. I didn’t do it because it will be easy. I didn’t do it to make more money. I did it to try to help the humanity I love,” he added.
Musk added that he will invest in Twitter because he believes in its potential to be a platform for free speech around the world, and believes that “free speech is a public imperative for a functioning democracy.”
“However, since making my investment, I realize that the company will neither thrive nor serve this public imperative in its current form. Twitter has tremendous potential. I’m unlocking it,” he wrote now.
Musk believes that there is a great risk that social networks will be divided into extreme right and extreme left, will work as echo chambers, and that in this way society will split, and the possibility of dialogue will be lost. According to Musk, he bought Twitter to prevent this.
- Earlier on Thursday, Musk posted a video of him walking into an office with a kitchen sink. He changed the description of his Twitter profile to “Main Twitter”, effectively confirming the purchase of the social network.
