Power engineers appealed to save electricity consumption. I thought: why should I save money? And found out that our family consumes almost no electricity, at least compared to average fellow citizens. Lighting is LED, moreover, with adjustable power, the dishwasher works only at night, we also program the washing machine. The centralized hot supply was disconnected a long time ago – we use a boiler, which, of course, heats up at night, and we pay half the price for electricity, because we have a two-zone meter. Charging a mobile phone or a laptop is a trifle that does not deserve attention, despite some advice not to use chargers during peak hours. We try to turn on the shower not at the time of peak consumption, because the hair dryer is a powerful consumer of energy. We also try to cook on an electric stove during the day. Therefore, all we could do for the state and its power system was to turn off the sound bar and listen to TV from the built-in speakers. All.
At the cottage last year, I pasted an energy-saving film on the windows: it costs a penny, is almost invisible, and reduces heat loss extremely effectively. According to sensations, gas consumption has decreased by a third, the house heats up faster, cools down more slowly. The alarm system has a built-in temperature sensor that shows the temperature in the country via the Internet (the price of the sensor is one dollar). Usually, when we go to Kyiv, we turn off the boiler. When I see that the temperature in the room drops to +5 degrees, I turn on the electric heater through the mobile application and Wi-Fi socket. All this costs a penny and saves money not only for our family, but also resources for the state. One thing is surprising: why does the government not carry out energy-saving propaganda? People are ready to help the state, but they don’t know how. Why not prepare simple recommendations on a page of text and distribute them through the media? I am sure that my colleagues will gladly support such an initiative.
And there is also the issue of civil security and defense. Probably, after the end of the war, a corresponding course will be introduced into the school curriculum. But this knowledge is needed today. Therefore, it is worth distributing them right now. I cannot understand why the authorities do not centrally conduct inspections of the basements of high-rise buildings together with the managers of condominiums, do not provide recommendations on the organization of storage: availability of water capacity, basic things for staying and sleeping: at least some boards on which you can sit or lie, a minimum of tools: shovel, crowbar, ax, if possible – wiring of light and installation of an outlet. There should be several buckets, if possible, an emergency exit should be arranged. It is worth inspecting the basement and predicting blocking of ventilation, any gaps. In case of radioactive contamination, this will significantly increase safety. You will have to spend at least a couple of days in a maximally closed storage. The keys to the basement must be in a place known to all residents, and the evacuation plan must be in a prominent place. All these are elementary things, which, unfortunately, many people do not know, and the relevant services were not organized after seven months of war.

As for evacuation from the place of residence, this should also be planned. In my family, everything was ready even before the start of the war. But we didn’t have to prepare for a long time, we already have everything we need: even in the absence of gasoline or traffic jams, we are ready to get on a bicycle, attach trunks with the most necessary things to the trunks (sleeping bags, mats, a burner, gas cylinders, dishes, freeze-dryers, tourist clothes, a first-aid kit ) and move away from the front line. What to do for those who do not have bicycles, cars and hiking gear? It’s simple: put on the most comfortable shoes, put a bundle of corn plasters in your pocket, pack the essentials in a shoulder bag (no bags and suitcases on wheels!) and go in a safer direction. We do not leave pets under any circumstances! Everyone should have a raincoat, and preferably a jacket that retains moisture (the desired fabric index is at least 5000 mm water column).
And don’t be afraid of the slow way of walking. It is unlikely that the enemy will be able to advance faster than a pedestrian. And if you are not overloaded with things, you will be able to cover 20-30-50 or more kilometers in a day. Some are able to walk up to a hundred kilometers in a day. Adrenaline will make your move easier. If you don’t have a tourist torch and a gas cylinder (it’s worth buying – it’s cheap), a few bars, a handful of nuts, etc. will be enough for you for the day. It is necessary to have a certain supply of water. If you have time, prepare tea with sugar in a thermos. It effectively restores strength. Drink it – you will be able to throw it away and get rid of excess weight.

Then you can wander to infinity: how to spend the night outside on a cold night without tourist equipment, how to avoid stomach diseases in the absence of drinking water. All this is on the Internet – search. Buy things that will make your life easier and more affordable at the tourist shops. Yesterday I visited a travel store and saw a dozen derivative water filters for any wallet the size of a fountain pen. There is no hype. It is not appropriate to treat your own safety with contempt. We have a crazy maniac neighbor, so we must always be on standby.
Of course, my advice will be read by a couple of thousand citizens at most. And the state should take care of the rest. Such advice should be disseminated as widely as possible by the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense, for which the government is responsible, primarily through a national telethon. The state pays for these broadcasts, so let them place a state order for television crews to prepare the show. Our military has proven that they know how to defend the state, civilians must learn to protect their own lives.
