Poland and Germany did not reach an agreement on the exchange of tanks that were given to Ukraine

Marcyn Ochepa, Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland, said this reported in an interview with Gazeta.pl.

“The offer from Germany that we received was an unsatisfactory offer, because it was about the transfer of a small number of tanks and it would have been very long in time,” explained the deputy head of the Polish Ministry of Defense.

Ochepa noted that the Polish side handed over “quite a lot” of tanks to Ukraine, compared in particular to the Czech Republic.

“If we were not able to receive tanks at the level of 40 units from the German side as compensation, then something is wrong… The answer we received was: “they have these and not other capabilities”… Germany cannot afford to transfer more equipment to us” , – he said.

  • It will be recalled that Poland handed Ukraine more than 200 Soviet-type tanks, primarily T-72. In exchange, Germany had to hand over modern Leopard tanks.
  • Poland is also buying almost a thousand tanks, more than 600 artillery systems and dozens of fighter jets from South Korea
  • At the same time, Ukraine has already started receiving BMP-1 from Greece, which was also agreed within the framework of the circular exchange scheme with Germany.
