The transfer of additional troops to the south will not really help the Russian army against the backdrop of the impending counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. About it in an interview RBC-Ukraine said General Dmitry Marchenko, who led the defense of Nikolaev in the spring and has now returned to the south.

“This is probably to make it more convenient for us to destroy them in a heap. In fact, there is information that they are reinforcing the troops that they already had there. They understand that Ukraine is preparing for a counter-offensive operation and in connection with this they are reinforcing there their groups, they are moving battalion tactical groups. But this will not help them much,” he said about the transfer of Russian troops to the south.
Marchenko noted that now they are talking about about 25 Russian BTGs (one BTG – from 600 to 1,000 military men) in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, but no one has seen exactly how many there really are.
“Be that as it may, no one is afraid of them here, no one will run away from them. We are ready to meet them and give battle,” the general said.
He also noted that the operational command “South” is very successful in delivering artillery strikes on enemy targets – over the past week, more than 10 ammunition depots and command posts have been destroyed. According to him, the situation with the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the south “is not as bad as everyone thinks.”
