“Why is Russia doing all this? Because they think that if they are held accountable for such crimes, it will be decades later.
They simply do not believe that the international community is able to bring to justice those who have nuclear weapons for war crimes, “Volodymyr Zelensky said.
The President stressed that Russia has shown that it neglects all international conventions, law, human protection and the inviolability of state borders. By killing, raping and torturing Ukrainians, the occupiers showed that “they hate life itself, everything lives.”
Zelensky stressed that there are huge differences in values between Russia and civilized countries.
Therefore, Ukraine’s Western partners must unite to speed up international investigations and trials to punish Russian war criminals. The president also acknowledged that justice in international law does not usually happen quickly.
