The parties discussed ongoing efforts to implement and enforce the broad multilateral sanctions imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

“Deputy Secretary Adeyemo expressed concern that Russian entities and individuals are trying to use Turkey to evade sanctions imposed by the US and 30 countries,” the report said.

Adeyemo reaffirmed the United States’ interest in the success of the Turkish economy and expressed the Treasury Department’s commitment to partnering with the Turkish government to protect the integrity of its banking sector.

  • Russia said on August 16 that it had signed a contract to supply Turkey with additional air defense missiles, but Ankara quickly denied signing a new agreement.
  • The US presidential administration may recommend that American companies reconsider business relations with Turkey, which is not going to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation if these two countries agree to a “formal economic partnership.” Perhaps these will be recommendations on the withdrawal of businesses from Turkey.
