According to ISW analysts, the Russian occupation authorities in Crimea are likely considering the possibility of strengthening security on the peninsula after attacks on the Russian military infrastructure, and such measures could divert Russian security forces from the front line.

“Russia’s inability to stop attacks on the occupied Crimea may also cause discontent in Russian society,” the Institute’s experts predict.

In support of their words, they point to criticism from Russian military bloggers who believe that after the first UAV attack in Sevastopol, more electronic warfare should have been used.

Evidence of “growing public concern about the effectiveness of Russian security measures” in the ISW also called traffic jams formed in Crimea, in which Russians are trying to leave the temporarily occupied peninsula.

  • On August 20, in the morning, an explosion thundered near the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation in Sevastopol in the Crimea temporarily occupied by the Russians.
  • In the evening of the same day, the sounds of explosions were again heard in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
