Employees of the SBU, the National Police and the National Guard came to the Koretsky Holy Trinity Monastery (the city of Korets) of the Russian Orthodox Church, a convent in honor of the Volyn Icon of the Mother of God (the village of Serniki, Zarechny district) and on the premises of the Sarnensko-Polesye diocese of the UOC.

As noted, the events are taking place as part of the SBU’s systemic work to counter the subversive activities of Russian special services in Ukraine.

Given the armed aggression of Russia, the risk of terrorist acts, sabotage, hostage-taking increases, especially in crowded places, law enforcement officers said.

According to the SBU, these activities are carried out for:

– preventing the use of religious communities as a cell of the “Russian world”;

– verification of data on the use of the premises of monasteries for harboring sabotage and reconnaissance groups, foreign citizens, storing weapons, etc.;

– ensuring the safety of the population from provocations and terrorist acts.

The special service reports that with the direct participation of representatives of the church, law enforcement officers:

– inspect the indicated territories and premises in order to identify objects prohibited for circulation;

– check persons for their involvement in illegal activities to the detriment of the state sovereignty of Ukraine.

All actions are performed within the limits of the current legislation.

The SBU stressed that in its activities the special service observes the principle of impartiality to the activities of any religious denomination and respects the right of every citizen to freedom of opinion and religion.

According to Opendatabot, the Korets convent belongs to the synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.
