In the Chernivtsi-Bukovina diocese of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, they announced the “treachery” of the Security Service of Ukraine due to searches in their premises, where counterintelligence officers found signs of the “Russian world”. Secretary of the Diocese Archimandrite Nikita (Storozhuk) in address to Telegram complained about broken doors and “threats with gunshots”.

According to him, “at seven in the morning we heard incomprehensible sounds” – these were law enforcement officers, and “it was unexpected for everyone.” He claims that they were allegedly “threatened with shots”, but assured that he was “ready to shoot – it does not bother me.”

Having told his version of events, the archimandrite lamented that the government agencies are “completely undemocratic, using despotic methods.”

Yesterday, a photograph of a UOC-MP clergyman next to a partially undressed young man caused a wave of reactions, jokes and memes on social networks. Storozhuk says – this is allegedly “everyone who was in the diocese was taken out of their rooms, put against the wall, undressed and, it turns out, photographed.”

“And then, of course, well, there are all sorts of additives … Well, such obscene ones,” he added and urged, “if there is any evidence, let them prove it.”

On November 23, he was appointed head of the Ivano-Frankivsk diocese of the UOC-MP.

The SBU writes that on November 25, during searches, documents were found confirming the Russian citizenship of the leadership of diocesan structures, his correspondence “with Moscow curators” and “manuals” of the occupiers, who told churchmen under the wing of the Russian Orthodox Church how to promote the “Russian world” for parishioners.

  • On October 11, 2022, the SBU conducted searches at the residence of Metropolitan Jonathan (Yeletsky) of Tulchinsky and Bratslav. He was charged with “inciting religious hatred.”
  • During searches in the Kirovograd region, the SBU found correspondence between the local Metropolitan Joasaph (Guben) and the head of the Russian Orthodox Church.
  • On November 15, the SBU opened a criminal case because of songs about “the awakening of Mother Rus'” while serving in the KPL. The priest was suspended there, they claimed that the songs were allegedly the initiative of the parishioners.
  • During recent searches in the premises of the UOC-MP, literature with propaganda of the “Russian world” was found, more than 2 million hryvnias, over $100,000 and several thousand Russian rubles.
