In January 2023, Ukraine may receive the promised 3 billion euros of macro-financial assistance from the European Union. The funds will be part of the package for 2023 in the amount of 18 billion euros.

This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during today’s briefing with the Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis.

Shmyhal emphasized that it is extremely important for Ukraine to receive funds at the beginning of the year, when there are problems with filling the budget.

“Already next week, Ukraine will receive 2.5 billion euros in aid this year, we are grateful to the European Commission for this, in December we expect another half a billion, and this year will be closed. We are satisfied, we have agreed that this year’s 3 billion aid will be included in the 18 billion next year. It is very important for us to receive them in January, when it is traditionally quite difficult to fill the budget”– he emphasized.

The vice-president of the European Commission confirmed the words of the Ukrainian prime minister and emphasized that the program of macro-financial assistance will include some conditions. In particular, it is about strengthening good governance, as well as the fight against corruption.

«That is why we started talking about the development of this big program, which we call “macro-financial assistance plus”. And we are now actively working to get this program up and running so that we can provide the first amounts of funding at the beginning of January next year“, Dombrovskis added.

He confirmed that Hungary raised certain questions regarding the organization of aid allocation. However, Dombrovskis expects the program to be approved in early December.

We will remind, on November 9, the European Commission confirmed its intention to provide Ukraine with 18 billion euros next year.

On October 18, Ukraine received another 2 billion euros of EU macro-financial assistance.

Ukraine expects the next tranche of macro-financial assistance from the European Union to arrive in November and December this year.
