EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova held a series of meetings with representatives of the new government in Slovakia. Officials assured her that they would not block the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the Union.

Maternova published a statement on this topic in her Facebook accounts.

She said that she met in Bratislava with three representatives of Robert Fico’s government – Deputy Prime Minister Petr Kmec, Minister of Defense Robert Kalyniak and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Marek Ashtok.

All of them said that Slovakia will continue to support Ukraine “both politically and financially.”

“Slovakia will support the initiatives of the European Union, including the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU”, – said the ambassador.

We will remind that after the formation of a new government in Slovakia, representatives of the anti-Ukrainian Prime Minister Robert Fico repeatedly announced the termination of military aid to Ukraine. And a few days ago, the Slovak side officially informed NATO about it.

The mass media also reported that Slovakia, together with Hungary, opposed the allocation of 50 billion euros from the EU to Ukraine.
