Argentina elected the libertarian Javier Millay as its new president. He received almost 56% of the vote.

About this informs Reuters.

With 93% of ballots counted after Sunday’s second round of elections, Miley won 56% of the vote, compared to 44% for Economy Minister Sergio Massa of the left-wing Peronist coalition.

Massa conceded defeat in a speech to supporters in Buenos Aires.

“The Argentinians chose a different path. I contacted Javier Miley to congratulate him. From tomorrow, the responsibility for ensuring certainty in the country belongs to him.” – he said

In turn, Miley promises economic “shock therapy” aimed at correcting decades of ineffective policies. In particular, he proposes dollarization of the economy, privatization and refusal of cooperation with China, Brazil and Russia in favor of the United States. He also opposes Argentina’s entry into BRICS.

This strategy has found support among a population suffering from a shrinking economy, prolonged currency depreciation and one of the world’s fastest rates of inflation.

“Argentina’s new president will have to deal with empty government and central bank coffers, a $44 billion International Monetary Fund debt program, and inflation approaching 150%.” – emphasizes the agency.

It is known that Javier Miley strongly supports Ukraine. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he participated in an event in support of the Ukrainians.

“I was one of the first to condemn the invasion of Ukraine” – he emphasized in an interview with The Economist.

In addition, he expressed readiness to meet with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyi in the first months of his tenure as president, and called Russian dictator Vladimir Putin an “autocrat.”

Miley noted that “if we defend the ideas of freedom, we cannot support and accept the Russian invasion of Ukraine.”

In September 2023, Javier Miley took part in an event organized by the Embassy of Ukraine in Argentina. Then the presidential candidates took a picture with the Ukrainian ambassador Yuriy Klymenko, holding sheets of paper with slogans in support of our country.

Javier Miley held a sheet with the inscription “We are with Ukraine”.

It will be recalled that the President of Slovakia Zuzana Chaputova appointed the leader of the pro-Russian party “Smer-SD” Robert Fico as the new prime minister of the country.

As you know, the ex-president of the USA, Donald Trump, said that if he wins, “he will end the war in Ukraine even before the inauguration.”

It was also reported that the former leader of the “DPR” Girkin decided to run for president of Russia.
