German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has reaffirmed his readiness to hold talks with Volodymyr Zelensky, despite a recent incident that disrupted a trip to Kyiv.
Steinmeier voiced his position in Bucharest after meeting with Romanian President Klaus Johannes, reports The time.

Steinmeier said he would like to personally express his support and exchange views with “his Ukrainian counterpart, if possible.”
“We Germans wholeheartedly support Ukraine”– the President of Germany emphasized.
According to the publication, after an unsuccessful trip to Kyiv in April, Steinmeier tried several times unsuccessfully to contact Zelensky by phone.
It will be recalled that in April, Frank-Walter Steinmeier wanted to come to Kyiv with a delegation of presidents of other countries, but he was told that his visit was “undesirable.”
At the same time, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he had not received an official request from Steinmeier regarding the visit.
Because of this story, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz now does not want to come to Kyiv.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk criticized Scholz’s position, saying it was not the time to play “offended sausage.”
