The appeal of VAX allowed ex-deputy minister Hrymchak to appeal the verdict

Yuri Hrymchak

The Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court allowed the former deputy minister for temporarily occupied territories, Yuriy Hrymchak, to appeal the verdict, which sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

Such a decision was adopted by the panel of judges of the VACS on October 17, “Slovo i Dilo” reports.

“The petition of the convict (Yurii Hrymchak – ed.) – to be satisfied. To renew (Yuriy Hrymchak – ed.) the deadline for an appeal against the verdict of the High Anti-Corruption Court dated February 23, 2022. To open appellate proceedings on the appeal of the convicted person against the said verdict of the High Anti-Corruption Court”the decision states.

Also, the Appeals Chamber of VAX has set a deadline of November 4, during which objections to the appeal may be submitted.

It will be recalled that the Higher Anti-Corruption Court found Hrymchak guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property. His lawyer tried to appeal the verdict, but was denied.

As the court found, Hrymchak promised to solve two issues for a representative of a private company for money. His mediator was an assistant, the brother of Hrymchak’s wife, Ihor Ovdienko. Thus, during a conversation with the specified representative, Hrymchak found out that he was trying to solve one issue in court, namely debt collection from another company. The ex-deputy minister allegedly promised to solve this issue for $100,000 by appealing to the ex-deputy prosecutor general to influence the head of the Civil Court of Cassation, who in turn influenced the judges of this court. It is about Angela Stryzhevska.
