According to the investigation, a 48-year-old man from Balaklia entered into a criminal conspiracy with representatives of the Russian occupation forces and declared himself the “chief” of an illegal law enforcement body created by the enemy – the so-called “people’s militia of Balaklia”, reports the spokesman of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region, Vladyslav Abdula
From April to September, the collaborator performed the entire complex of illegal duties in the interests of the occupiers: hired other persons, managed the official activities of employees, organized joint shifts with representatives of the occupying forces at critical infrastructure facilities.
It was established that in September, the perpetrator fled to Kupyansk, which was occupied at the time, where he was later detained by Ukrainian law enforcement officers after the deoccupation of the city. It seems that the occupiers did not really trust the defector from Balaklia: the service card issued to him was only valid until the end this year.
SBU investigators qualified the actions of the “chief of police” under Part 7 of Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (voluntary occupation by a citizen of Ukraine of a position in illegal law enforcement bodies created in the temporarily occupied territory). At present, he has been notified of the suspicion. The collaborator faces from 12 to 15 years of imprisonment.
